Watch Dogs 2 Zodiac Killer Mission is a pre-order bonus side operation in Watch Dogs 2, developed and published by Ubisoft. The mission is set in San Francisco and is inspired by the real-life Zodiac Killer case from the 1960s–70s, reimagined within the game’s hacking-focused open-world universe.

In this DLC mission, players control Marcus Holloway, a member of DedSec, who becomes involved in a series of disturbing cryptogram messages and murder-related clues appearing across the city. The storyline begins when DedSec intercepts encrypted communications linked to a figure claiming to be the Zodiac Killer. These messages challenge Marcus and the team to solve puzzles scattered throughout San Francisco.

Gameplay revolves around investigation, hacking, and puzzle-solving rather than traditional combat-heavy missions. Players travel across multiple real-world inspired locations, such as bridges, abandoned facilities, industrial zones, and city landmarks, where they must locate encrypted clues. Using Marcus’s hacking tools, players analyze data, breach systems, and decode messages to progress through the mission chain.

As the investigation continues, the tone becomes darker and more psychological compared to the base game. The mysterious antagonist communicates through taunting audio logs and cryptic symbols, creating tension as players attempt to piece together the identity and motives behind the killer. The mission builds suspense through environmental storytelling and investigative gameplay rather than direct confrontation.

The mission also includes a series of objectives that require exploration of different parts of San Francisco, encouraging players to use DedSec’s hacking abilities creatively. Remote hacking, surveillance systems, and digital manipulation are key tools used to uncover hidden evidence and advance the storyline.

Near the conclusion of the DLC, players eventually confront the mystery surrounding the Zodiac Killer figure. However, the narrative intentionally leaves some elements ambiguous, preserving the mystery of the character and echoing the unresolved nature of the real-world case. This approach reinforces the theme of unanswered questions and digital-era urban legends within the Watch Dogs universe.

In addition to the story content, players are rewarded with an exclusive outfit themed around the Zodiac Killer, which can be used in the main game. The mission also integrates seamlessly into the broader Watch Dogs 2 experience, appearing as a side operation accessible after progressing through the main storyline.

Overall, the Zodiac Killer Mission DLC offers a compact but atmospheric investigative experience that blends hacking gameplay with a murder mystery narrative set in the Watch Dogs 2 version of San Francisco.
